Development of deep learning technologies for integrating multiple variant types into genome-wide association analysis

Project description

Building on its previous ProFIT project, Lucid Genomics will develop deep learning technologies that integrate multiple types of genetic variants — single nucleotide variants, structural variants, and tandem repeats — into a single genome-wide association analysis. Conventional analyses rely almost exclusively on single nucleotide variants and therefore overlook a large share of the genetic architecture underlying disease. By combining the additional variant types that can now be detected in short-read whole-genome sequencing data, the project aims to uncover novel disease associations that a variant-restricted analysis would miss. These signals will be translated into interpretable insights that help connect genetic findings to potential therapeutic pathways.
